Million Mile Club™ Membership Criteria

Membership Criteria

1. CAFS Million Mile Award is available to drivers whose primary job function is driving commercial vehicles employed in British Columbia.

2. A driver who has driven a commercial vehicle for one million consecutive miles may qualify for a Million Mile Award if those miles are accumulated without a preventable collision.

3. A driver who has been nominated for the Million Mile Award must obtain certification from all employers worked for while accumulating these miles.

4. All nominees for a Million Mile Award must supply a recent driver’s abstract (no more than 30 days old). The abstract must be clean for the last three years, with no criminal conviction for at least five years.

5. Each year of safe professional highway driving is considered equivalent to 100,000 miles. A city driver may be considered for the Million Mile Award with 20 years of safe driving. Applicants with a combination of city and highway experience will be considered individually.

The nominee must have 1,000,000 miles or 20 years of (preventable) collision free driving. The mileage or years must be consecutive. Any preventable or “at-fault” collisions within that time period would disqualify the applicant. If there were any periods in excess of 90 days of non-driving time in the last 20 years, the period(s) must be accounted for.

Membership Scenarios

For example, a driver could have accumulated 16 consecutive years as a commercial vehicle driver, without a preventable collision; be promoted to a dispatcher position for a period of two years, then resume driving, again without a preventable collision in the following four years. Such an applicant would qualify for indoctrination into the Million Mile Club, granted the applicant has documented the two-year hiatus from driving for the Association.

Conversely, if the driver were to have had a preventable collision any time during the 20+ years or one million miles, he/she would not qualify for the award.

Another example, a driver could have driven one million miles, over the period of several years, without a preventable collision in a seasonal capacity (annually, fall through spring - summer off). It would be the driver’s or his employer’s responsibility to document the periods of inactivity in order to qualify for the award.
